ABOUT US
Who We Are
Women in Aquatic Science and Management Network (WASMaN) is a non-profit association established to enhance the active participation of women in aquatic science and management, and to promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable aquatic resource management and conservation.
About Our Company and Our People

Sustainable management of aquatic resources that support the blue economy depends on reliable scientific and indigenous knowledge, as well as the active involvement of diverse stakeholders at all levels. Research and practice increasingly demonstrate that inclusive decision-making—recognizing the differentiated knowledge and experiences of women and men—leads to more effective environmental governance and sustainable development outcomes.
Despite this evidence, women remain underrepresented in research, innovation, and formal decision-making processes related to aquatic resource governance, policy, and management, particularly at higher institutional levels. WASMaN was established to address this gap by creating a platform that empowers women to contribute meaningfully to aquatic science, leadership, and decision-making.
Why WASMaN Was Established
Women play critical roles in aquatic resource use, conservation, and community livelihoods. However, systemic barriers continue to limit their participation in research, innovation, and policy spaces.
